Trending sectors for 2022 recruitment
In 2021 we started noticing that more and more of our candidates were requesting roles in fast-growing and trending industries. Whilst in previous years we saw candidates shying away from up-and-coming sectors, since the pandemic candidates have started to list these industries as their preference.
We saw a few sectors in particular which were starting to become popular and we predict that the areas below will continue to trend in 2022.
Sustainability and ESG
Sustainability is hot across all sectors and we’ve noticed a specific need for candidates who have a CSR skill set. Businesses are under much more scrutiny now with both employees and customers wanting to either spend money with or work for companies who are socially conscious. A recent study by Robert Waters showed that nearly half of the UKs 100 biggest companies link executive pay to environmental, social and governance (ESG) measures.
Technology start-ups
Working for a technology startup used to be an industry that candidates would steer clear of as it didn’t feel like a safe option. However, post pandemic we’ve noticed that many of our candidates are looking for roles where they can be making a difference to the business, rather than just being a cog in a large machine. Candidates are much more open to riskier positions working for businesses where they can move up the ladder quicker and learn new skills on the job.
Family Offices
Family Offices are becoming increasingly popular when it comes to PA and EA roles. In a post-pandemic world, family offices are now modernising the way they do business. They are shifting their focus to investing in startups or organisations that are purpose-led. With many of our candidates looking for roles where they can learn about new industries and enhance their own skill set, working for a small family office can provide them with many opportunities to get involved in exciting projects.
Health and wellbeing
The health and wellbeing industry is continuing to boom covering six dimensions: health, fitness, nutrition, appearance, sleep and mindfulness. According to the Global Wellness Institute, “Wellness” as a sector is already worth up to £2.8 trillion worldwide and it’s growing rapidly. Technology looks to accelerate growth in this sector which is making it even more appealing to our candidates.
We can already see that 2022 is going to be filled with roles focussing on the sectors above. Businesses are putting ESG measures in place and employees are searching for roles in companies who are having a positive influence on the world.
