I can safely say that I have survived my first week at Anderson Hoare . It was a shock to finally live in the “real world” after all those years at school. But I have certainly learnt a lot about the workings of a top PA recruitment agency like Anderson Hoare.
I now know the difference between the job of a Personal Assistant and an Executive Assistant as well as all the other jobs spoken about in the office. What has been a surprise is that I never expected to truly enjoy working life; especially in a PA recruitment agency. What has struck me is that you clearly don’t have to be a graduate to be employable! Yes, there are some companies who prefer to take on people with a degree. But many put, attitude, appearance, ability to communicate and having a general “can do” attitude above academic qualification. And although Anderson Hoare’s primary function might be as a PA recruitment agency they also help people like me get their foot in the door of all sorts of different companies.
The message that I have received this week was that Graduate Recruitment Schemes are not the only way to get your foot in the door of good companies. Anderson Hoare have a large range of jobs and not just for Personal Assistants. They have first jobs as team assistants/administrators/receptionists and many more on offer with a diverse companies in all sectors from Advertising Agencies and PR companies to Banking and Headhunting.
I’ve heard some amazing stories of people who came to Anderson Hoare. A few years ago thinking that they might end up as a PA and found themselves instead right at the top of a company. For example one lucky person was sent to work as a temp receptionist at a world famous advertising agency. 20 years later they are a Senior Director of that same agency and thoroughly enjoying life at the top. Another went to a well-known internet stat up in 2000 as assistant to the entrepreneur who set it up. She was made a Director, was given shares in the company and ended up on the receiving end of a large pay out when the company was sold 3 years ago. She was last seen on a large yacht in the Caribbean.
