First impressions are everything. As you will be going into the secretarial industry. One of the details you want to pay close attention to is your attire. Remember you will be representing your boss. They want to hire someone who will look presentable. The Anderson Hoare team told me what they look out for in a candidate.
Secretarial Industry: A Style Guide
You want the interviewer to remember you for the right reasons, such as your personality and performance. Not as “the one with the short skirt/ nose stud…”. You should either wear a skirt or pant suit. Preferably in black. They should be worn with a blouse, hosiery and closed toe shoes.
Make sure that piercings and tattoos are covered. But of course, wear minimal conservative earrings in the ears. Don’t do too much with your hair. Keep it simple. Leave the cologne off, let clean and freshly laundered be your signature scent.
What to Wear to Work When You Get the Job
You should research what the company attire is before you start. When you are hired, look at what your colleagues wear. You don’t want to look bad on your first day. If you want to be in the secretarial industry you need to be presentable. Your boss’s colleges will have to go through you to meet him/her. When they meet you, you will be their first impression of what your boss will be like.
For the first few months, I would advise you to stick strictly to the dress code. Even if you notice that your colleagues take some liberties. You don’t want your choice of attire to make you stand out in a negative way.
Hopefully these tips will help you on your journey to becoming a high-end PA, EA or secretary. Remember first impressions are important! So look good!
